They're baaaaaaaack.
After 8 years since their last album, 2016's 'Woman', the legendary electronic French House duo have officially announced their 4th studio album, 'Hyperdrama', along with dropping the first two singles off it.
To say I'm excited for the return of Justice would be an understatement. As the other very well-known French duo in the electronic dance scene, Justice have always been compared to Daft Punk. For most, this type of insurmountable comparison could break someone's spirits. Not Justice, though. Not only have they carved their own path, but they have the potential to reach new heights in a world with no Daft Punk.
With the release of their double single, 'One Night/All Night' with Tame Impala and 'Generator', the duo have kicked off the sound that is to be expected on their upcoming album.
'One Night/All Night' with Tame Impala plays as a sort of techno-disco double-header. Kevin Parker's very silky vocals overlayed on top of a very grunge-esque synth progression is masterfully done. It's almost as if the track is going back and forth between disco and techno, which I'm sure Justice themselves would be glad to hear because this was exactly their intention with the track, as heard from a recent interview. It's a clear progression in their sound, and a welcomed one at that. They stated that the album as a whole will be doing this back and forth between genres on a multitude of tracks, and I'm genuinely excited to hear that.
On 'Generator', Justice take us back to a much more angry and chaotic 90s retro-techno vibe. For longtime fans of the duo, this track will be very reminiscent of their earlier work, namely 2007's 'Cross'. Funnily enough, the most impactful part of the song is when it enters an orchestral break at the halfway point. All you hear are luscious strings that paint a dark and dreamy soundscape before descending perfectly into madness with its drop. Absolutely stellar work in production and sound design here by Justice.
If you couldn't tell already, I'm extremely excited for this album and the return of Justice. These two outstanding singles, though different from one another, showcase perfectly the raw skill that these master producers possess.
